despite the death last year of star Chadwick Boseman. In addition to the Wakanda-set series, as part of the five-year deal, Coogler’s production company, Proximity Media, will get to develop series for other Disney divisions.

Wakanda, of course, is the fictional African kingdom that is home to the superhero Black Panther. The 2018 movie grossed $1.3 billion worldwide.

In December, Disney+ announced an ambitious slate of streaming series in the coming years, including at least 10 Marvel shows. It was unclear when the Wakanda-set series may debut.
