ETMarkets Investors' Guide: Hiren Ved on how market will react to any new taxes in Budget | The Economic Times Markets Podcast

This is ETMarkets’ Investor’s Guide, a show about asset classes, market trends, and investment opportunities. This is Chiranjivi Chakraborty.

This past week, Dalal Street seems to have got noodle legs heading into Monday’s Union Budget. The benchmark equity indices posted their biggest weekly losses since September.

Some blamed it on the prospects of likely new taxes in the Budget, while others said it was just an old school pre-event profit booking.

Either way, investors find themselves grappling with uncertainty yet again.

And when it’s uncertainty in the market, it is always prudent to turn to the wise.

We turned to Hiren Ved, a Dalal Street veteran and CEO and CIO of Alchemy Capital, to try and understand what’s making investors uneasy and which pockets of the market can actually benefit from the forthcoming Budget.

Welcome to the show, Mr Ved!

Q. With ‘Atmanirbhar India’ likely to be the dominant theme of the Union Budget, which are the sectors that you expect to be the biggest beneficiaries?

Q. There is a lot of chatter about a possible COVID-19 cess and even an LTCG hike. Do you expect the Budget to tread down that lane? How will it affect the market’s sentiment?

Q. There has been a call to boost consumer demand, but given that the government’s fiscal space is likely limited; how can the FM provide support to the lower and middle-income households?

Q. Mr. Ved, looking beyond the Budget what are your top sectoral bets for 2021 and why?

Thank you Mr. Ved, that was indeed an insightful conversation.
